In the autumn of 2020, Trebuchet Players will produce an Applied Theatre project designed for first-time voters.
For six weeks participants will attend meetings that are part class and part rehearsal. For the scholarly component, the group will read, discuss, and actively explore historical plays — specifically, plays that directly engage with their respective political milieus. For the artistic component, participants will create their own creative responses to the reading assignments. The work will culminate in a weekend of performances for the public.
The goal of this project is not to promote any particular political ideology, but rather, through an engagement with the arts, to encourage widespread participation in the democratic process.
All participants will receive financial compensation. No prior theatrical experience necessary.
